A couple’s life is turned upside down when their daughter is cast alongside a controversial star. Link to DA'S Office: Ep. 26 – THE DISASTER OF THE ACOLYTE! Could this be the end of DISNEY STAR WARS? (2024). The first half of the film is more of a character study, about a very unhappy and lonely housewife, Anette, who soon learns that her husband Ben may be having an affair with the famous actress Alicia. The second half of the film is more of a thriller where we see the pace start to pick up and the wheels start turning in Anette’s head. The film is a real slow burn: first cold and cold, then warm. bubbling then exploding in the final act. It is gripping, engaging and tense. It is based on a fantastic performance by Daisy Ridley. She is a real revelation. Her moments of quiet, festering anger are crushing. There is a symbolic scene in which we see her shatter a mirror moments after pushing it into it, symbolizing the destruction of their marriage. Shazad Latif is also good here. The movie has some mediocre aspects. The trailer is quite misleading. Sometimes it can drag and be boring. Some viewers may find the ending cathartic and rewarding, while others may find it mediocre. Hiba Ahmed as Matilda, the daughter, is just fine, although children’s performances in films are often not very good. She felt more like a prop than a character. And Matilda Lutz, while really beautiful and charming and convincing as a movie star in the context of the movie, was just okay. Perhaps because Lutz is Italian, many of her lines sounded odd or snarky. If you like thrillers with strong acting, especially those dealing with female rage, eroticism and infidelity, this will be right up your alley.
